they are not fighting over the island. island is a pin point to own a large area of sea. If china give up island, it also means they give up the area that contains taiwan. They also need to behave and respect other counrty..tell me is it fair to go to Philippines and other south east asian nation's island and even a meters away from Brunei or Malaysia's shore line...what if we go to China and do the same thing? China has legitimate reasons to be upset with Japan for the behavior of Japan during WWII. Japan and China have legitimate reasons to e upset with each other for the 3,000 years of relations between the two which preceeded WWII. ANd of course, some people in China and Japan have legitimate reasons to be upset with other current residents of their own coutries for what happened during those 3,000 years (those who survived, anyway). The bottom line seems to be that China has documents from 3,000 years ago in which they acknowledge the people of Japan as a country, and others in which they claim Japan as part of their empire. So like everywhere else on Earth, they can manufacture an excuse to go to war if they wish, or to bully each other when they can, and pretend it is reasonable.

@James, I'm well aware of the history, but what's done is done. What exactly is Japan supposed to do about it now? Besides some of those places you mentioned (i.e. China, "North" Korea) aren't exactly saints either. Chairman Mao actually laughed at the Japanese apology for its actions during WWII. He said that he wouldn't have been able to defeat the Kuomintang if it weren't for Japan.
We rather to be partners of Koreans and japanese rather than to Chinese...... Depleting nation, wanted to counquer other nation's resources,,,Greedy Chinese..

@Jose. have you been living under a rock? it was even on natinal geographic channel regarding the biological experiments. japan even denied nanking massacre they did not mention their war crimes in any of their text books. you see how their youth would have a different view of what happened. i think you must have forgotten the filipina comfort women they used. just because their dead does not mean we wont forget those atrocities
